SEAN SMITH & THE SETTING SONS

          GET A LITTLE MORE "ACTION"
Sean Smith is about to re-release his recent album "ACTION CITY" with artwork and photographs by Mara Taber.  Originally released digitally in late 2008, Action City will now be available in cd form online at CDBABY as well the official website and of course at live shows.
Recorded in Los Angeles and produced by Dave Immergluck (Guitarist Counting Crow), the album features Chris Seefried (Low Stars) on guitars and backing vocals, drummer extraordinaire Don Heffington and Immergluck on various guitars and bass.
ACTION CITY boasts a big rock sound over a laid back acoustic/americana vibe, with tasteful lead guitar and even a little fuzz bass thrown in courtesy of Immergluck.
Smith's music hearkens to Paul Westerberg, Elvis Costello, and Joe Strummer in its lyrical preciseness, raw moods, wit, grit, and power.
Immergluck and Smith have developed a close working relationship over the years, which greatly influenced the way the album unfolded. Of working together on ACTION CITY, Immergluck says "Sean's vivid songwriting just keeps getting better aned better! East meets west again as the New York punk poet songster travels to the golden state to randomly fuse the transendental with some good old fashioned NY urban grit...One of the most satisfying recordings ive had the pleasure of being part of."
ACTION CITY is the follow-up to 2006's UNDERACHIEVER  EP
With tracks produced by David Immerglück (Counting Crows) and Jesse Malin, recorded in Los Angeles and New York respectively, Underachiever features some of the top musicians of both cities. Joining Smith's warm, shimmering acoustic, Immerglück holds down wailing pedal steel and lap steel, plus bass, along with Counting Crows bandmate Charles Gillingham on piano, Wurlitzer, and organ. Chris Seefried, long-time friend and musical co-conspirator, rounds out the LA sessions with beautiful harmonies on "Kathryn" and haunting piano and organ on "Sugarsweet", the album's closing track. Back in New York, Christine Smith (Malin, Ryan Adams, Crash Test Dummies) accompanies on keyboards and vocals, along with Amalia Daskalakis (Mad Juana) on viola.
